vsNew Composers Workshop

Victoria Symphony New Exploration Workshops

An innovative, 6 month program where young composers have the opportunity to work with the Victoria Symphony resident composer and a dedicated ensemble of Victoria Symphony musicians. In it’s third year, this program has already seen some prize winning pieces of music created by young, talented composers.

vsNEW runs from October to March, each workshop run approximately 2 hours on Sunday afternoons.

3 of our 2010/2011 vsNEW participants were awarded for their composition entries in this year’s Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival.

Our vsNEW Young Composers and their results:

  • Carmyn Slater won the Junior Category
  • Anna Williams won the Intermediate Category
  • Jared Richardson won the Senior Category
  • Carmyn and Jared both won Scholarships from the RBC Foundation and PJ Music Studios.
