22nd Annual Victoria Symphony Splash Just Two Months Away

The 22nd Annual Victoria Symphony Splash takes place on July 31, 2011

Victoria, BC – In just two months, Victoria’s marquee event of the summer takes place on July 31, 2011 in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of Victoria Symphony Splash. The event always take place on the BC Day long weekend which usually falls on the first Sunday in August but every seven years, like this year, the date is July 31.

The event is shaping up to be one of the best with a musical program that celebrates BC Parks’ 100th anniversary. Local entertainers The Timebenders are confirmed as the opening act, and an expanded Splash Family Zone that includes musical performances, activities and bouncy castles takes place from 1 to 4pm.

“Every year the Splash team, through creativity and a lot of hard work, produces a better event and adds a “legacy” element that complements the existing traditions of Splash. This year we are very excited to be adding a street dance with the Timebenders beginning at 4pm !” states event spokesperson Bethany Wilson, Director of Marketing & Sales for the Victoria Symphony.

The street dance will take place on Belleville Street directly across from the Symphony barge beginning at 4pm, when the Timebenders take to the stage. People of all ages and dance abilities are encouraged to join in and move to music from all eras performed by this incredibly entertaining local band.

In 2008 the commemorative button campaign celebrated the 20th birthday of Victoria Symphony Splash and continues to encourage onsite donation – in 2009 the orchestra parade was introduced allowing the audience to interact with the musicians as they made their way to the Symphony barge – and in 2010 a second stage was added to give families with young children some afternoon entertainment, and the Canadian Navy joined in on the 1812 Overture their salute guns. All of these continue in 2011.

Volunteers are still needed for various event positions including donations, Instrument Petting Zoo, security, and production. Approximately 400 volunteers assist in making this event happen- the majority of whom are needed on event day. Volunteer applications can be downloaded from www.victoriasymphonysplash.ca.

Complete event details and grandstand seats will be available beginning Monday, June 27, 2011. Call 250.385.6515 or visit www.victoriasymphony.ca for event details as they become available.

Victoria Symphony Splash takes place on July 31, 2011 from a floating stage in Victoria’s picturesque Inner Harbour. Maestra Tania Miller, the Victoria Symphony, and their special guests will perform to over 40,000 people. The day begins at 1pm with activities and live music in the Splash Family Zone and ends with Victoria Symphony’s annual performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture at 10pm accompanied by fireworks and cannons.
