Cirque de la Symphonie Makes Its Victoria Debut March 10-12
Monday, February 21st, 2011The Victoria Symphony welcomes Cirque de la Symphonie to the Royal Theatre on March 10, 11 and 12 for three high-flying shows conducted by Maestro Giuseppe Pietraroia. This is the fifth concert in the 10/11 Beltone Pops Series.
The Victoria Symphony, together with world-renowned performance ensemble Cirque de la Symphonie, bring the magic of the circus into the performance hall with this vibrant concert. Cirque de la Symphonie counts world record holders, gold-medal winners, and Olympic athletes among its ranks, and has sold-out major concert halls across North America. Artists Sergey Ignatov (juggling), Shana Lord (contortion, dance, aerial rope), Vitali Tomanov (aerial strap), and Olga Shalyganova (aerial duo) combine with the virtuoso musicians of the Victoria Symphony to create a dynamic blend of motion and music.
Repertoire for this concert encompasses substantive orchestral music from composers including Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky and Wagner, as well as popular contemporary favourites. Fucik’s Entrance of the Gladiators, Stravinsky’s Circus Polka, and Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Brahms provide intricate yet identifiable pieces, delighting audience members both young and old.
Conductor Giuseppe Pietraroia is the Conductor-in-Residence for the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria, as well as the Music Director of the Victoria Choral Society. As a guest conductor he has been engaged by Orchestra London, Vancouver Symphony, l’Orchestre Métropolitain, l’Opéra de Montréal and Opera New Brunswick.
